HOMECOMING
2012

Some of the oldest settlements -post colonization - in the Salt River Valley (Phoenix Metro area) were Mexican American settlements formed along the The Salt River before Arizona became a U.S. State. Downtown Tempe, Arizona - home to Arizona State University - was one of these settlements. Until the 1960s downtown Tempe was one of the oldest Mexican American barrios in the state of Arizona. Over the course of several decades, through eminent domain initiated for ASU campus growth, Mexican American communities were displaced from downtown Tempe, leaving almost no visual trace of these once rich and vibrant communities. Matthew Garcia and Banda Revoluzion created  PROJECT HOMECOMING  to honor those lost communities with a march through downtown Tempe at the Arizona State University Homecoming Parade.
